We’re a disperse group of HCI researchers from around the world who are holding alternative and ancillary events in parallel (or thereabouts) to CHI ’24, i.e., para.chi.
Our reasons are diverse. Some of us are motivated by the #whychi and the Hawai’i crisis; others, the ongoing efforts to virtualize the CHI conference series. Still others have sustainability, pandemic, and geopolitical factors in mind. A number of us are also responding to devirtualization at CHI ‘24, notably the decision to exclude online-only presenters from the live program. Many are seeking ways to support students and early career researchers.
As community volunteers, we’re hosting regional events in virtual, hybrid, and in-person formats. Please check each event site for details. Have an event? Please get in touch! We’ll list events small (e.g., virtual mentoring, online networking) and large (e.g., unconferences).
Feel free to contact Katie Seaborn with listing requests, questions, or bug reports.
Are you holding a virtual or hybrid event in your local area during CHI ’24? Let us know:
If you’re hosting a small event, we can list the details (e.g., contact method, location, Zoom link) above.
You’re also free to use the para.chi.somewhere template for WordPress, available on GitHub.
